Objective

This competition aims to enhance youth awareness and understanding of the construction industry through creative short video production. Participants are encouraged to explore the multifaceted nature and societal value of the industry from fresh perspectives. Leveraging the power of artistic expression, the competition also seeks to inspire young individuals to articulate their imagination, sentiments, and aspirations toward the construction industry, while reflecting on its role and significance in urban development.

Theme

Participants must submit a creative short video that explores at least one of the following aspects of the construction industry:

  1. Spirit of Craftsmanship in Construction
  2. Youth's Growth Stories within the Industry
  3. Construction Industry and Social Development
  4. Innovation and Technology in Construction
  5. Diversity and Teamwork in Construction
  6. Construction Safety

Eligibility

All participants must be Hong Kong Permanent Residents at the time of submitting the application form and fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Student Division: Full-time secondary or tertiary students
  2. Open Division: Individuals aged 40 or below

Submission Requirements

  1. Each participant should submit only one short video.
  2. The work submitted must be original, without any infringement of others’ work and not previously participated in any other CIC competitions.
  3. Duration: 1 to 5 minutes. Language can be in Chinese, English, or bilingual, with Traditional Chinese or English subtitles.
  4. The video may incorporate text, images, or multimedia media elements.
  5. Each video must not exceed 500MB in file size.
  6. Video resolution must be 1080p, and the file format must be MP4, MPG, or AVI.
  7. Video content (including but not limited to text, graphics, images) must not involve illegal, obscene, indecent, defamatory, threatening, pornographic, harassing, hate-inducing, disturbing, racially or ethnically offensive, discriminatory, advocating criminal behaviour leading to civil or criminal liability, violating any laws, rules, or containing inappropriate material, ensuring no infringement of others' rights, including intellectual property.
  8. A 200–300 word introduction in Traditional Chinese must be submitted alongside the video, explaining the concept and its relevance to the theme.

All participants who submit entries that meet the competition criteria will receive an electronic Certificate of Participation.

Rules, Conditions and Terms

  1. Award winners must attend the "Building Your Future" Short Video Competition Awards Ceremony in person on 16 May 2026 (tentative).
  2. Staff of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), members of the Construction Industry Council Youth Affairs Committee (CICYAC), judging panel and their immediate family members are not allowed to participate in this competition.
  3. Each participant can only submit one entry. If more than one entry is submitted, CIC will disqualify all submissions of the participant.
  4. Entries must be the original works of the participants that have not been previously participated in any other CIC events or competitions. Plagiarism, adoption of others' works, ideas or materials is strictly prohibited. Participants must ensure that they own all rights to the content in their works, including but not limited to images, pictures, sounds and text, for ownership, modification, and publication.
  5. Each video must be between 1 and 5 minutes in length. The language may be Chinese, English, or bilingual, and the video must include Traditional Chinese or English subtitles.
  6. Each video must not exceed 500MB in file size.
  7. Video resolution must be 1080p, and the file format must be MP4, MPG or AVI.

  9. Submitted works that do not meet the abovementioned requirements will be disqualified without prior notice.
  10. By submitting a work, participants agree that CIC will hold the intellectual property rights to the video.  Participants acknowledge and confirm that all rights, title and interest in and to the videos submitted, including all intellectual property rights, shall be solely and exclusively owned by CIC.   Participants further assign to CIC the rights of use and reproduction of the video for promotional purposes and/or for use on ordinary business materials.  All successfully submitted entries shall become the property of CIC, which reserves all rights to use, modify or dispose of the works without the participants’ consent.  
  11. CIC reserves the right to publish, edit, reproduce, exhibit, distribute works through any media, compile works into publications, and utilise the names of participants, their respective schools / organisations, and works for non-commercial promotional and publicity purposes, without the need for prior consent from participants or payment of copyright fees.
  12. By submitting a video, participants agree to waive the moral rights in the work under Hong Kong Copyright Ordinance.  CIC reserves the right to include the names of participants and the names of their respective schools / organisations when publishing, presenting, or uploading the entries.
  13. Participants knowledge and agree that they will be solely responsible for any claims, losses, additional expenses, compensations, and liabilities arising from any violation of the terms related to their submitted work, and that the CIC will not be held liable in any way, and the participant shall keep CIC indemnified against all claims, proceedings, losses, damages and costs sustained by CIC in relation thereto.
  14. All works submitted may be uploaded to the CIC or Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) websites and social media pages for public viewing and may be printed as posters to be displayed at construction sites to promote.
  15. CIC reserves the right to modify and interpret the above rules and terms without prior notice.
  16. Participants, in joining this competition by submitting a work, acknowledge and agree to abide by all rules and regulations of this competition.
  17. Results of the competition and all decisions of the judging panel shall be final and shall not be subject to dispute by any person.  In case of any disputes, the final decision and interpretation of the rules, conditions and terms of the competition is vested with CIC.
  18. In the event of any discrepancy or ambiguity between the Chinese version and the English version of these terms and conditions, the English version shall prevail.
