Programme Objectives

  • Facilitate interaction and learning between young professionals in the construction industry and secondary school students.
  • Broaden students' perspectives through the guidance of young construction professionals.
  •  Assist students in exploring career planning and understanding the diverse job opportunities within the construction industry.
  • Enhance students' future aspirations, encouraging a positive and proactive attitude.

Programme Details

  • The programme will be implemented in a one-on-one pairing format.
  • Pairing will be arranged by CICYAC, with each student matched with a young construction professional as a mentor.
  • Mentors will provide guidance and advice on career planning, academic/career choices, financial management, and maintaining a positive mindset.
     

Eligibility Criteria

Mentors
  • Young professionals in the construction industry (45 years old or below).
  • At least 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Willing to communicate with young people.
  • Responsible, caring, and patient, and agree to participate in the programme voluntarily.
Students
  • Secondary school Form 3 to Form 6 students.
  • Interested in improving their career planning through the programme.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Mentors
  • Lead students in participating in activities organized by the Construction Industry Council, Hong Kong Institute of Construction, and CICYAC.
  • Broaden students' horizons, inspire them to establish or improve their career plans, and help them build confidence and a positive attitude.
  • Assist students in setting personal development plans.
  • Understand students' difficulties from a peer perspective, provide effective solutions, and share relevant experiences.
Students
  • Explore personal potential and development directions.
  • Enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Gain a network of experienced professionals.
  • Willing to communicate and accept others' opinions.

 

Selection and Pairing Arrangements

  • Both mentors and students must attend interviews. Students from Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) families will be given priority.
  • The selection committee will interview participants and pair them based on personality, gender, age, interests, residence, and career aspirations.
  • If there are more student applicants than mentors, with the mentors' consent, one mentor can lead up to four students.

Scholarship

Students who complete the entire programme will receive a scholarship of HKD 2000.
