ᐅ Construction Skills Competition

Organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC), the “Hong Kong Construction Skills Competition” is a premier event for young professionals in the construction industry, attracting young practitioners and trainees.

The CIC will host "The 3rd Hong Kong Construction Skills Competition (Youth Group & Fundamental Group)”  at the Hong Kong Construction Industry Trade Testing Centre in December 2024, bringing together various forces to move towards the international stage.

Objectives:

  1. To uplift the skill level of industry practitioners through competition and recognise those with excellent skill level in their respective trades; and

  2. To elevate the skill level of young practitioners as construction elites through competition, also to encourage the industry to identify and groom new talents and attract new entrants to join the construction industry.

7th December, 2024 (Saturday) (except for Concreting Construction, on 3-4 or 10-11 th December, 2024)

Construction planning

  • Custom construction planning and pre-construction briefing
  • Inspection for Protection and Smooth Handover

Innovation and Technology

  • Select new tools and equipment*
  • Select and introduce new technology applications*
  • Application and use of Building Information Modeling (BIM)

*Pre-approval from the trade testing center is required before the competition to maintain fairness in the process and technology competition.

Safety

  • Use of smart construction site safety equipment
  • Dynamic risk assessment
  • Simulate high-altitude work
  • Selection and application of personal protective equipment
  • New “Safety Risk” traps

Age Requirement

 Individuals aged 20 or below (born on or after January 1, 2004)

 Individuals aged 18 or below (born on or after January 1, 2006)

Qualification Requirements

Possessing the Intermediate Trade Test Certificate or the Semi-skilled Worker (ITT) qualification issued by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) (or above qualification) of the corresponding trade;

OR

Having accomplished or currently under a training course or collaborative training scheme.

Applicants can obtain the application form from the Hong Kong Construction Industry Trade Testing Centre, CIC website, email, WhatsApp, or WeChat. After filling it out, submit it via one of the following methods:

The public application deadline is October 25, 2024 (except for individuals invited by the CIC), based on the date the application form is received by the CIC or the postmark date.

Nomination Method

 

Applicants must have one (but no more than one) nominator or nominating organisation.

Nominator requirements: Must hold an Intermediate Trade Test/Trade Test Certificate issued by the CIC, or be a Registered Semi-skilled/Skilled Worker (i.e., Intermediate Worker/Skilled Worker)

Nominating organisation requirements: Must be a registered specialist trade contractor, registered subcontractor, chamber of commerce, union, training institution, or direct employer of the applicant.

Top 3 winners:


Each winner will be awarded with HK$5,000 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate. Additionally, there are rich prizes:

Champion: Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB 5G (Reference retail price: $13,599) 

First Runner-up: Apple iPad Air (6th Gen 2024) 11” 128GB Wi-Fi + 5G (Reference retail price: $5,799) 

Second Runner-up: Rakuten Kobo Sage 8-inch eReader (Reference retail price: $2,399)

Merit Award:

Each winner will be awarded with HK$1,000 cash prize.

*The above are suggested prize items and reference retail prices. The final competition prizes will be based on market availability and prices at the time.

*Outstanding participants, who fulfill the requirements, may be selected to participate in the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 as one of the Hong Kong representatives, as well as the WorldSkills Training Programme. 

Top Three Winners:

Each winner will receive a certificate and rich prizes:

Champion: Apple iPad Air (6th Gen 2024) 11” 128GB Wi-Fi + 5G (Reference retail price: $5,799) 

First Runner-up: Galaxy Tab S9 128GB FE + 5G (Reference retail price: $4,888) 

Second Runner-up: Rakuten Kobo Sage 8-inch eReader (Reference retail price: $2,399)

Merit Award:

Each participant will receive a certificate and a HKD $500 bookstore voucher.

*Outstanding participants, who fulfill the requirements, may be selected to participate in the WorldSkills as one of the Hong Kong representatives, as well as the WorldSkills Training Programme. 

Judging Panel

To ensure the transparency and equitability of the competition, the assessment panel will be comprised of representatives nominated by the CIC, Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC), trade associations, labour unions and/or other industry stakeholders.
